Well, well, well... Alex and the Diamond Hands from Moscow, Russia.
Well, well...
Brilliant sounds of Rock'N'Roll, New Authentic Rock-A-Billy gems, good ol' way, vintage look, lightness and lovely waft. That's what could be said after the release of their debut album "... a handful of diamonds" (2011), then still with the old name Diamond Hand. Now here's a brand new "Flyin' Up" (2020).

Usually, when you look at a fresh release, you always want to get something. Whether it's feelings, information, dreams, or appetite. With "Flyin' Up" CD you can find a lot of sensations: nice colors, impression and tone of design; notice about high fidelity mono; own
independent label Diamond Tone Records; fifteen rockin' titles and it was only the front cover. Take a look inside and here are the lyrics.
All of them are written by and credited to the leader of the band, Alex. Just great! The introduction of the rest of the group is also
here, Igor plays double bass and Oleg plays drums. Back cover with some more things around the release. And CD print is also fine. Very classic, actually.

Let's think about what happens when you listen to a fresh release. Usually you are either completely sure of what you will hear, or magic awaits you. Sometimes you are ready, sometimes you could not. From time to time, albums are prettier in a particular atmosphere and listening environment. However, if you listen for it - you will definitely get the right points and hear.

"Flyin' Up" begins with an interesting composition "Jukebox Rocket". Quite a multifaceted thing, both in the sound sense and in the lyrics. Vibes, waves, stylish melody and groovy emotions.

The second track is one of the most significant dancefloor smashers on the tracklist - "Suzie's Wiggle". Maybe it is so. As the album also contains and ends with an alt-version of this incredible song. Heavy enough and tough a bit, viscous boppin' tune. The fifteenth track (alt-version recording) is more fanciful and with some perks over the arrangement. Delicious for romping rowdies maybe.

I will say third track, "Highest Mountain", with most meaningful lyrics on tracklist. And by its sound and tune - song is quite spirited, gradually catching, with emphatic motive and well brightened up by the acoustic rhythm. I can admit that the first nine minutes of the album were a great start to a good rockabilly rave-up.

But what is a party without a stroll? Yeah, and here is one, thrilling stroll "Ah Itty Bitty Betty Lou". Moreover this fourth track is probably more of a strolling thriller, but a very loving and slightly erotic one.

The fifth track "Roll On Train" stands out a bit. Moony tone, loosened mood - and the train subject is perfectly conveyed (not hackneyed, but in an interesting way). Very artistry. Indeed harmonious and smooth rolling theme.

An astonishing start to the sixth track "Forlorn Town" is memorable. Likewise the composition itself as a whole. Great attempt to produce a somewhat folk melody with a raw, dramatic mood and a telling background. An excellent tune.

With the seventh track, there is a great opportunity to relieve stress with musical "Rockin' Pills". Although the song itself mostly
describes the irritation and annoyance from troubles, but you can sympathize and to twitch a bit to the nervous tune. Analog recording
on the tape is felt well and adds a special spice to this track. It was already twenty two minutes of enjoyment, but the album is still
pleasant and surprising. And yes it's still very rockin' and rollin' rockabilly music.

So, at this point we meet the hit "Cat Like That". Why a hit? I do not know, but cats are always so weird. So, why Hitcat can not be cat like that?! With an overflow of moods, sensations and emotions. Something hovering in between mysterious, awesome, trembling and creepy tones. Actually, this is one more dancing and hopping motivator. All in all, with a very fanciful rocking tune. But to a greater extent, a bright presentation of the song.

The ninth track is "All I Can Do" with good overall sound. By its potential I will compare this song to "Highest Mountain". Song is wavy and just strong kind of ballad thing. A little foggy, in hopes, in thought.

And this part of the tracklist will also be continued by potentially terrific song "Strike Back". This tenth track starts with a doublebass solo. Lovely! Punchy and melodious, stubborn tune and receiving support from the listener. Just cool.

The eleventh song is vivid, tuny and well thought out composition "Oh Baby Baby". The track is not good for just one thing, but for its balance. And, of course, it has many performance elements that rockabilly listeners want in one way or another.

But only surely rockin' tunes are a bit tedious. So it's great to hear a song as sensual as "A Little Bit Of Your Lovin'". Dizzy track with strollin' and boppin' in a tender manner. Music sentiments that balance on the edge of feelings.

However, it's cool that the tracklist continues with powerful and cheerful things further. The first of them is the thirteenth track, instrumental composition "Moon Harvester". Very atmospheric, very picturesque, good connection between title and sound. An excellent instrumental tune with a really rocking and mighty surprise.

And it continues with a very dynamic song "Boogie Tonight" and alt-version of "Suzie's Wiggle". Perfect finishing of the record.

So, top-notch guitar solos, some hot guitar licks and good arrangements with an emphasis on that saturation, charming singing,
smooth undertones and bright notes. What else?! Very elegant, mostly clean sound, tunefully. Well, fairly rockin' and rollin' dancing album that will make you shakin' and tappin'. I can highlight some songs but it is not easy.(depends on the mood). But looking at the tracklist, I am especially touched by "Cat Like That", "Moon Harvester", maybe "A Little Bit Of Your Lovin'" and surprisingly for me "Highest Mountain". But.. no, they are all good. Feel free to listen loud! Or just enjoy the taste.

In overall, almost nothing superfluous and unnecessary; although maybe something is missing. But this is art, this is a distinctive
masterpiece. Made in a very gallant tone. The album is filled with the desire to make and get an authentic mood. With original brilliance, of course. And in general, everything worked out. Is it so or not.. Or is it just my flyaway imaginations.. Well, check it out for yourself and take a ride with Alex & the Diamond Hands. And "Flyin Up"!

Alex & Diamond Hands – Flyin’ Up (2020) – Бриллиантовая рука космонавтики

All I Can Do – щемящая мелодия открытых просторов диких земель Запада.

A Little Bit Of Your Lovin’ шелестит грустью нездешнего прибоя.
